Resetting a Handheld

Modified on Fri, Oct 18, 2024 at 2:37 PM

A handheld must be reset anytime it is transitioned between users, whether this is because of staff change or reorganization of assets. This process is necessary to protect user sensitive data, including but not limited to: email access, Paylocity information, phone customization, and photo and browser content.

Unless IT or HR should direct otherwise, this should be performed in a timely fashion after a user is no longer using the device.

  1. Ensure all servicing data is off the handheld, Booklink has had day ended, and the handheld is powered on.

  2. Send an email to IT at support@choicebooks.com clearly indicating the handheld unit number and if you want to preserve the van inventory that is on that handheld. IT will trigger the reset of the device. (If you indicated that you wanted to preserve van inventory, IT will put the van inventory file where it can be loaded back to the device after reset.)

  3. After reset, the device will be put into "Shared Device Mode" which means that many of the apps that require user login such as Outlook, Paylocity, Teams, etc will be missing from the handheld. When you are ready to assign the HH to a new user, please see Assigning a Device To a User.
