Removing Files Previously Exported

Modified on Wed, Jan 18, 2023 at 12:20 PM

Problem

When exporting stores to a handheld, you get this message.

Full Text:

Files were previously exported for handheld {HHNUM}:
Export Date: {date}     Export User: {username}

These files have not been imported. Please located and import these files, or go to the Handheld Import screen and Ignore files that will not be imported.

Background

BookLink records each handheld export and matches it with the handheld imports.

Normally there will be only one un-imported handheld file for each handheld, so this is a reminder to import your handheld file before exporting more stores.

Cause

This warning can be caused by

  • Most common: Exporting multiple handheld files when having trouble downloading stores to a handheld
    • Note: This is pointless, and completely misses the problem, which is usually that the handheld is not connected to WiFi. You should check the Handheld Error Message Reference for your error rather than creating a backlog of files.
  • Exporting a file to include stores missed on an earlier export.
  • Someone else incorrectly exported a file to this handheld before exporting it to the correct handheld. Now the accidental file is useless and orphaned.

Solution

Instructions to fix this are in the warning message, but this article elaborates on them.

The solution is one of two things:

  • If the handheld has serviced stores, unload and import them.
  • If the file(s) are unused and will not be used for servicing, open the Handheld Import dialog and ignore the unused files.
