We have had much trouble with Bluetooth adapters since the reliable CableMax model was discontinued.
The Parani SD1000 model is so far working better than the others we have tested.
The Parani SD1000 requires some settings to be set out of the box.
Settings Notes
1) The top three switches need to be set to the right ("on") to put them in 9600 mode
2) To pair the device initially, you need to poke a paperclip or something thin into the pairing hole

Other Notes
- The mode light blinking twice means connected
- The mode light should blink three blinks when in pairing mode
- Make sure the little cable adapter is a gender swap, but not NULL modem
- The box includes a NULL ADAPTER (do not use it)
